GUDGEON
Gudgeon (Genus Gobiomorphus) are small, often benthic (lives in the lowest level of water) fish with large, rounded fins and two dorsal fins. Many have an amphidromous lifecycle: the eggs are laid in fresh water, but the fry are dispersed to sea soon after hatching, and grow there for several months before returning to fresh water. Being small and benthic means that they are unlikely to be seen. Gudgeon are common along the east coast of Australia, with multiple species being found both West and East of the Great Dividing Range.
